Community Mediation
What is Community Mediation?
Community Mediation improves life within the community and helps people to cope with or resolve disputes and issues that can lead to conflict between neighbours or the community as a whole.
Mediation empowers individuals or the community as a whole to make their own decisions, working towards easing tensions and stress. It also helps to build and strengthen a feeling of community spirit.
Why bother with mediation?
Well it reduces the number of people whose only option is costly legal action. Mediation saves time, money and manpower for statutory agencies, e.g. police, local authority, welfare rights, etc. and is more effective than some forms of Anti Social Behaviour initiatives.
The majority of issues between neighbours are more suited to mediation than Anti Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs). Early intervention through mediation has a success rate of over 92%
If you look at the pyramid below you can determine where your dispute fits and if it is mediatable?

Who pays for mediation?
Some Local Authorities provide mediation as an alternative to Anti Social Behaviour as it is often more effective and provides the opportunity to build bridges between parties. You can check with your Local Authority or speak to us about your options.
If your Local Authority does not provide this service then contact us as we work with several Local Authorities, have a wealth of experience in Community Mediation (see case study above Useful Information) and can provide experienced mediators at reasonable costs.
